<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>This article attempts to analyse the development of historical urbanism as an interdisciplinary field of research. The relevance of the study is driven by the growing interest in examining urbanisation processes in the context of the need to comprehend the historical experience of urban space development.</p><p>The aim of the work is to explore methodological approaches and research practices in the field of historical urbanism, including an analysis of domestic and foreign academic schools. The study examines key epistemological approaches to the study of cities, with special attention given to understudied areas such as the concept of topophilia, the gender approach, and the theory of the rural-urban continuum.</p><p>The scientific novelty lies in the systematisation of modern approaches to the study of urban processes and the identification of their connections with historical precedents. The main conclusions demonstrate the necessity of an interdisciplinary approach to the study of urban processes and the importance of integrating historical experience into solving contemporary urban problems. The study shows that understanding the mechanisms of urban evolution is only possible through a comprehensive analysis of historical precedents in the context of modern challenges. </p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>историческая урбанистика</kwd><kwd>краеведение</kwd><kwd>историкокультурное наследие</kwd><kwd>городская среда</kwd><kwd>историография</kwd><kwd>история городов</kwd><kwd>урбанизация</kwd><kwd>история XX–XXI вв</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>historical urban studies</kwd><kwd>local history</kwd><kwd>historical and cultural heritage</kwd><kwd>urban environment</kwd><kwd>historiography</kwd><kwd>history of cities</kwd><kwd>urbanisation</kwd><kwd>history of the 20th–21st centuries</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Вершинина 2012 – Вершинина И.А.
