Correlating evil and enemy moral-religious concepts in the Ronald Reagan’s speeches
Abstract
The inevitable historical prerequisite (and the consequence as well) giving rise to any war conflict is the enemy concept with its deep interpretative and contextual meaning. Within the political and legal system of the USA the enemy concept has been traditionally correlated with the moral and religious concept of evil as in the war time the religious rhetoric of the USA plays the role of a moral criterion in defining the legitimacy of warring sides’ actions.The usage of the religious context with evil and enemy concepts creates the illusionary portrait of the USA as an objective judge estimating other nations’ political actions without giving any evidence to the objectivity of these estimations. Pretending to be the God-chosen nation with missionary obligations,the USA is unable to initiate and develop relations of equality and partnership with any subjects of international law.
