Images of Russian America in captain John D’Wolf’ memories
Abstract
The article considers the images of Russians and Indians in American merchant ship captain John d’Wolf’s representation. He visited Russian possessions in America and crossed Siberia in the beginning of the 19th century. Since the end of 18th century Alaska was being integrated into the Russian Empire simultaneously it gradually entered the area of economic and political interests of the USA. American merchants, visiting Russian settlements and encountering their inhabitants in the north-west of the continent, created images of both Indians and Russians.
