Electoral fraud in the 2009 presidential elections in Iran
Abstract
The 2009 mass protests in Iran demonstrated a social partnership crisis inside the Iranian social and political system. As a result of this, the country was divided into two camps: supporters and opponents of the Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who won the presidential election. On the day following the announcement of the voting results the protests,staged by supporters of the defeated candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi, began in many cities around the country, resulting in numerous arrests and victims among the protesters. They believed that the election results were falsified in favor of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. To what extent the protesters were right is an issue of a profound scientific interest.
