Abstract

The intensification in Japanese-Indian cooperation has been seen for the last few years. If earlier the parties declared more interest in expanding bilateral contacts, but did not take serious practical steps to achieve that, now the list of cooperation areas grows and such a trend is likely to continue in the long term. For Japan, relations with India, which is one of the largest markets for Japanese cars, high-tech products and equipment, are mainly economic in nature, but one should not discount the efforts of the Land of the Rising Sun aimed at curbing Chinese trade and economic expansion in South Asia. On the other hand in partnership with Japan, India sees opportunities for attracting the advanced industrial and energy technologies, as well as diversifying its foreign policy in order to strengthen its leading position in the South Asian region. Studying the international cooperation institutions of the two countries has an obvious relevance, particularly given the increasing role of India as one of the world’s major economies, and will allow to identify the key trends in the development of that cooperation on the basis of which it will be possible to make predictions on the future structure of regional foreign policy cooperation.
