Abstract
The article analyses factors of political participation for citizens of Russia, considering cumulative impact of complex phenomena including the system of values, and particularly the prevalence of democratic values and traditions of political competition, the type of political culture, political activity rate, form and content of political behaviour. The author concludes that traditional values remain to have major impact, despite the existence of the institution of citizenship and formal endorsement of democratic values and institutions. This occurs on the basis of an appropriate to Russia “symbiosis” of traditional and secular-rational values. Furthermore, the author notes that Russians’ demand for a better life includes not only the drive for the order and stability, but also urge for democratic freedoms and open competition in the political life.

Abstract
The political system of the Islamic Republic of Iran is a unique phenomenon that comprises both republican and Islamic principles of organization of the state power. However elective institutions such as the President or the Parliament (Mejlis) are totally controlled by Islamic institutions. In this regard, one can observe the religious elite of the state possessing the monopoly of power. Nevertheless, during presidential election campaigns the candidates that had obtained approval of religious authorities fought for the win on the basis of real competitive struggle. In several cases the final results proved unpredictable. The election process of 2009 was highly significant for the country as it became a basis for the mass protests of the opposition that disagreed with the results.

Abstract
The paper attempts to interpret linguistically main institutions used in the political and legal system of Saudi Arabia. Such concepts as “the state of monotheists”, “the kingdom of true Islam”, “Hanbali School (madhab) of Sunni Islam as the only version of Islam”, “the island of religious purity” become the key ones in the messianic language of the Kingdom, which, according to the author, has some interpretative resource while describing rules of law (Koran, Sunna, etc), Muhammadibn Abd al-Wahhab’s works and, finally, of those rules of law (Nizam of 1992) which date back to the foundation of Saudi Arabia as an independent state.

Abstract
The outstanding Russian antiquity researcher M.I. Rostovtzeff (1870-1952), who was forced to emigrate in 1918 and eventually accepted a professorship at Yale University, underlined repeatedly that he managed to create his own scholary tradition in the USA. One of its intellectual mainstay was a specific understanding of the system of cross-cultural communications, the contest of the artistic styles in the Hellenistic period. In this article there is an attempt to reveal the origins of M.I. Rostovtzeff’s particular view of that issue by analyzing his pre-emigrant works dedicated to the research of the ancient Panticapaeum funerary paintings.

This article is devoted to new trends in the energy policy of the EU countries, generated by economic and political events of recent times. The author analyses two main directions in solving the basic problem of overcoming the energy deficit in the EU: increasing domestic energy production and ensuring secure supplies from abroad. It is shown that at the present stage the significant increase in domestic energy production in EU countries (in atomic power plants, renewable energy sources, based on the technology of hydraulic fracturing) is impossible due to the insufficient level of technological development, lack of competitiveness compared to hydrocarbon energy, increasing environmental requirements, prevailing public opinion in European countries. The key reason for that is in the USA attempts to restore the individual leadership, to extend the jurisdiction practically for the whole world and to achieve replacement of public institutes of the power and economy by rather private ones, first of all, multinational corporations.
