Проблема урбанизма у древних майя в современной западной историографии
Аннотация
Статья посвящена историографическому анализу проблемы майяского урбанизма, которая оказалась в центре дебатов исследователей на рубеже XX-XXI вв. Дискуссия о существовании города в Мезоамерике в 1990-е гг. переросла в поиск отличительных черт городских центров. В рамках структурного и функционального подходов были предложены разные критерии отличия города от сельской округи, в целом делающие упор на наличие особых институтов и определенных занятий жителей. Низкая плотность населения в Мезоамерике обуславливала аграрный характер урбанизма. В целом за четверть века плодотворных дискуссий был сделан отход от универсальных определений города и урбанизма в сторону признания их разнообразия.
